becoming-peacemaker-following-jesus-christ-divided

In today’s world of conflict, contention, and division, striving to be a peacemaker is not just noble—it is essential for disciples of Jesus Christ. The Savior Himself declared in the Sermon on the Mount, “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God” (Matthew 5:9). To follow Jesus Christ is to follow the Prince of Peace—and that means actively working to spread peace in our homes, wards, communities, and hearts.

President Russell M. Nelson emphasized this divine calling when he taught:

“As disciples of Jesus Christ, we are to be examples of how to interact with others—especially when we have differences of opinion. One of the easiest ways to identify a true follower of Jesus Christ is how compassionately that person treats other people.”
(Peacemakers Needed, April 2023 General Conference)

Being a peacemaker doesn’t mean avoiding hard conversations or pretending that problems don’t exist. It means approaching every situation with humility, compassion, and a desire to heal rather than divide. It may look like a Relief Society teacher prayerfully preparing a lesson to foster unity and faith. Or a Church member choosing kindness in an online discussion. Or a parent calming a household with patience and love.

For those preparing to teach from General Conference talks, peacemaking includes creating an environment where the Spirit can be present.
